The Board's Role in Cyber-risk Oversight
Participants discussed the key issues board members should understand in order to execute their responsibilities regarding cyber-risk. Brett highlighted the integration of cyber-risk with overall enterprise risk management. He also discussed the current threat landscape and associated costs and provided an executive technical primer on cyber defense capabilities and considerations for meaningful metrics.

Brett T. WilliamsBrett T. Williams, Major General USAF (retired) is the President of the Operations and Training Division, IronNet Cybersecurity, Inc. IronNet has developed a revolutionary cybersecurity solution based on comprehensive network visibility, advanced behavioral modeling and very large-scale big data analytics. Brett is responsible for the design and development of security operations centers that can leverage the IronNet framework and integrate cybersecurity with business operations. Brett’s final active duty assignment (2012-2014) was as the Director of Operations (J3) at U.S. Cyber Command. In this position, he led more than 400 people as they conducted worldwide, full-spectrum cyberspace operations in support of national strategic objectives. His team was also directly responsible for the global operations and defense of DOD networks. Prior to this assignment, Brett served as the Director of Communications (J6) for U.S. Pacific Command (2009-2011). His 300-person directorate was responsible for the design, implementation and operation of all command and control networks supporting DOD’s largest geographic warfighting command. Brett’s cyber expertise and thought leadership have made him a noted speaker, author and television commentator. He serves on the faculty of the National Association of Corporate Directors Board Advisory Services and is a member of the Washington Speakers Bureau.
Gerry CzarneckiGerry Czarnecki is the principal stockholder of The Deltennium Group, Inc. which provides corporate boards of directors with consulting and facilitating assistance in the execution of their governance responsibilities. In addition to his own consulting practice, Gerry is a long standing passionate supporter of nonprofit organizations and is the Founder and Chairman of the National Leadership Institute. He has been a board member of more than 50 nonprofit organizations, ranging from the international to local levels. He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National University System, is a member of the Board of Governors of Junior Achievement Worldwide and is a Founding member and Chairman of the NACD Florida Chapter, Inc. Gerry is a NACD Board Leadership Fellow and serves as a faculty member for the National Association of Corporate Directors specializing in Strategy, Risk Management, Audit Committee operations and Cybersecurity. In addition to his nonprofit service, he also serves as Chairman of the board of directors of MAM Software Group, Inc.; is a member of the Board of Directors of Jack Cooper Holdings Corp., and is Chairman of its Audit Committee; is Chairman of ECO Building Products, Inc.; and is a member of the Advisory boards of Private Capital, Inc. and NuraHealth, Inc.
