John A. Quelch

John Quelch became dean of the University of Miami School of Business Administration on July 1, 2017. He also serves as the University’s vice provost for executive education. Quelch has a wealth of senior leadership experience, having previously served as the dean and senior associate dean at three internationally-recognized business schools. Prior to joining the UM School of Business, Quelch was the Charles Edward Wilson Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. He also held a joint appointment as professor of health policy and management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health – the first to hold dual primary appointments in those two schools, and one of only a few faculty members across Harvard University with this distinction. Prior to his most recent time at Harvard, Quelch was dean, vice president and distinguished professor of international management of the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) from 2011 to 2013. Under his leadership, annual revenues increased by more than 25% to over $100 million; the school’s MBA global ranking in the Financial Times improved from 24 to 15 and its Executive MBA ranking from 18 to 7; and the school launched programs to integrate faculty and staff activities across four CEIBS operations in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Ghana.

Susan Paley

Susan Paley is NACD's Chapter Advancement Officer. Having spent half a career in the international media sector, and the other half engaging corporate board leaders in elevating their awareness of critical issues, Susan's proven sweet spot is in content AND communication. Fluent in strategic leadership, clear messaging, and the pursuit of personal/professional enlightenment, Susan has a knack for understanding needs, creating solutions and communicating effectively across multiple cultures and platforms. A writer, content producer, casting director, stakeholder engagement expert, public speaker, and coach, Susan specializes in uncovering the kernel of truth, forming the right message, and delivering it, making it stand out from the others. At the BBC, the Discovery Networks, C-SPAN, and The World Bank, Susan received rave reviews for her critical thinking, communications solutions, her flair for inter-personal, client and talent relations. Her ability to coach & lead individuals has made her a dynamic resource as an adviser, coach, writer, manager and producer. As Member Engagement Officer at NACD she led her team in raising retention rates of the nearly 18,000 members (all corporate board directors) from 83% to 90%. As Chapter Advancement Officer she's created new levels of alignment and advancement across the network of 20+ chapters, leveraging innovative stakeholder engagement strategies.
